Fler Fred Lowen mid century armchair
A stunning Fler Amrchair, a masterpiece by renowned designers Fred Lowen and Ernest Rodeck. From Australia's mid-century era in the 1960s, this iconic piece showcases incredible artistry in design and a beautiful Australia hardwood frame.
The Fler company began making furniture in a two-horse stable in Richmond, Melbourne, in 1946. Its founders were two young European Jewish migrants, Fred Lowen and Ernest Rodeck. Both men had fled Nazi Europe, arriving in Australia in September 1940 via the Dunera. They met at Tatura Internment Camp in 1941 and struck up a friendship that was to last until Lowen's death in 2005. It was also the start of a successful and fruitful professional partnership.
They went on to manufacture furniture in every state in Australia; becoming a very well known and influential design company. Fred Lowen went on to create the company Tessa; their designs still a household name today.
I have two available. Each have been professionally reupholstered using Warwick Fabrics. The webbing has been replaced.
Each chair has been oiled. The timber is in really good condition.
